Let's be honest, terrariums are cool. I found a tutorial (click here) and tried it out.
You need:
a jar (we spray painted the lid)
gravel (I used aquarium gravel)
activated charcoal (I got it in the aquarium section too)
soil
stuff to put inside
Start out with an inch of gravel and then a layer of charcoal. Apparently, the activated charcoal keeps the terrarium from smelling, and also makes it so you don't have to poke holes in the lid! Then a few inches of soil, and then finally your plants, rocks, bugs... whatever. Daniel and I went on a little hike and found some mossy rocks, clovers, baby ferns. Daniel also found fungus growing on bark, so that is in his terrarium (the blue one). Here are some pics, although there are cuter examples of terrariums at the link above. These were pretty fun though, and I'm excited to see how they turn out.
PS- mine has a worm in it too.
No way! That's so cool! And I love the colored lids, very nice touch. Does the worm have a mustache? Because that would be an awesome tradition to carry on.
